Ojai Foundation Council House

About the Project

When building the Council House, sustainability was the primary focus. This 1,000 square foot structure is completely disconnected from the electrical grid, fully dependent on solar power. When the cold weather hits, solar-heated water circulates beneath the flooring, warming the main room and during Ojai’s 100 degree weather, the structure is protected from the sun’s rays by the tiny plants that form the living roof. Supan Builders worked as co-designers, creating a building that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is earth friendly.
